Key Public Strategies believes that communities thrive when businesses, non-profit organizations, governments, and the people who lead them are able to unlock their potential to succeed.

When community leaders have the information they need, they make rational decisions and respond to developments in ways that provide the most benefit to the greatest number of people.

Where good information is absent, markets become inefficent, decisions become irrational, and opportunities for growth are lost.

Key Public Strategies helps unlock the potential in great communities by ensuring that information reaches critical audiences and influencers at the right time, and in ways that they can use. Specifically, we develop and execute compelling, strategic communication campaigns for our clients, utilizing these and other skills and tactics:

  • MEDIA RELATIONS AND EARNED MEDIA PLACEMENT

  • MESSAGE DEVELOPMENT AND MEDIA TRAINING

  • Grassroots advocacy and community outreach

  • Government affairs

  • Internal communications management

  • Event planning and promotion

  • Fundraising consulting

  • STRATEGIC PLANNING AND MEETING FACILITATION

Please contact us if you believe that Key can help unlock your potential.

Experience

Key Public Strategies has the expertise, skills, connections, and resources to help.

Kerry Hayes founded Key Public Strategies in 2015, rooted in the belief that information can unlock the potential of great cities and urban places.

Prior to founding KPS, Kerry was the Director of Public Relations for doug carpenter & associates, where his clients included the Crosstown Development Project, Tennessee Brewery Untapped, the Mayor's Innovation Delivery Team, Livable Memphis, and Peer Power, among others.  Kerry was previously Special Assistant to Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. for nearly three years, joining his administration after serving as the Communications Director for Wharton’s 2009 campaign. His portfolio in the Mayor’s office also included work on social innovation, blight abatement, bicycle and pedestrian issues, volunteer service, and numerous other projects related to talent retention, economic development, and livability.

His diverse professional background in non-profit fund development and marketing includes work with Kroc Center, a 100,000-square-foot recreation, education, worship, and arts center; the Soulsville Foundation, a music and education organization in South Memphis; and Marwen, an after-school visual arts program for underserved Chicago adolescents.

Kerry is a 2002 cum laude graduate of Webster University, where he earned a B.A. in English.

Kerry is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff to Mayor Andy Berke of the City of Chattanooga.

He's a musician in several local bands including Me & Leah, Snowglobe and Glorie and loves all things Memphis and Memphis music. Jeff spent nine years working in communications at Church Health and is co-founder of their annual benefit concert Rock for Love. He also enjoyed a brief stint promoting all things Memphis for the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau. Besides working with KPS, Jeff also does freelance PR and consulting for Playback Memphis, Church Health, BLDG Memphis and more.
