Explore Bike Share is a new coalition of Memphis economic and community development leaders, today announced that they have launched a market research and feasibility study to determine if and how the Bluff City could launch and sustain a bike share system.
A typical citywide bike share system consists of on-demand bicycles available for rental from a network of stations. Users can pay per ride or may hold “all-you-can-ride” memberships of varying lengths. These can be purchased on-site via credit card or at partner locations that process cash payments. Securely capturing rider information and embedding GPS tracking devices protects the cycles against theft. Explore Bike Share’s charge now is to determine how this system could benefit as many Memphians in as many neighborhoods as equitably as possible, how our city would utilize bike share, and how we can make the whole system financial sustainable.
Key Public Strategies is assisting with public relations and community outreach for this campaign to ensure that our community realizes this system's remarkable potential for generating new health, environmental, and economic prosperity benefits.
